Care Guide

How to Care for Your Wooden Pieces

Wood is a living material. It breathes, it moves, it changes — and with the right care, it only gets more beautiful over time. Here is everything you need to know to keep your Feranliz pieces looking stunning for decades.

The Golden Rules

Natural wood responds to its environment. Too dry and it can crack. Too wet and it can warp. The goal is balance — keeping the wood hydrated but never saturated.

Regular Dusting

Dust your wood pieces weekly with a dry or slightly damp microfibre cloth. Always wipe with the grain, never against it. For carved pieces, use a soft brush to get into the detail work.

"A piece of wood, properly cared for, improves with age in a way no synthetic material ever can. Each scratch is a story. Each oil application is an act of care."

Oiling — The Most Important Step

For functional pieces like serving boards, bowls and utensils: oil every 4–6 weeks with food-safe mineral oil or our recommended natural wood oil. For decorative pieces, every 3–6 months is sufficient.

How to oil correctly:

  1. Clean the surface and let it dry completely
  2. Apply oil generously with a clean cloth, working with the grain
  3. Let it absorb for 20–30 minutes
  4. Wipe away any excess with a dry cloth
  5. Repeat once more for best results

What to Avoid

  • Never soak in water — prolonged moisture causes warping and cracking
  • No dishwasher — even for food-safe pieces
  • Keep from direct sunlight — UV rays fade and dry out the wood over time
  • Avoid harsh chemicals — bleach and strong detergents strip the natural oils

When It Needs More

If your piece starts to look dull, feels rough to the touch, or shows minor scratches, it usually just needs a good oil. For deeper restoration, lightly sand with fine-grit (220+) sandpaper along the grain, then oil generously.
