Wood Care Guide
Simple rituals that keep your Feranliz pieces looking stunning for decades — and beyond.
Why Wood Care Matters
Natural solid wood is a living material — it breathes, expands and contracts with humidity, and responds to how you treat it. Unlike engineered wood or plastic, solid wood can be repaired, re-oiled, and restored. A well-cared-for Feranliz piece will not just last a lifetime — it will become more beautiful with age, telling the story of your home.
The Essentials
Oil Regularly
Apply natural wood oil every 3–6 months. For kitchen pieces in daily use, oil monthly. This feeds the wood and prevents drying and cracking.
Avoid Standing Water
Wipe spills immediately. Never leave water pooled on wood surfaces. Prolonged moisture causes warping and staining that can be difficult to reverse.
Keep from Direct Sunlight
Avoid placing pieces in direct, intense sunlight for long periods. UV light fades wood over time. A little indirect light enhances the grain beautifully.
Stable Temperature
Wood expands and contracts with humidity changes. Avoid placing pieces near air conditioning vents, radiators, or over-humidified rooms.
Step-by-Step: How to Oil Your Piece
Takes 30–40 minutes, twice a year. Your wood will thank you for decades.
Clean First
Wipe your piece with a slightly damp cloth and allow it to dry completely (at least 30 minutes). Never apply oil to a wet surface.
Choose the Right Oil
Food-grade mineral oil is our recommendation for all pieces. For kitchen items, this is essential. Avoid cooking oils (like olive oil) that can go rancid inside the wood grain.
Apply Generously
Pour oil onto a clean, lint-free cloth. Rub into the wood in the direction of the grain. Don't be shy — let the wood drink it in. Pay extra attention to end-grain areas which absorb more.
Let It Absorb
Leave the oil to soak in for 20–30 minutes. You'll see the grain pop and deepen in colour. This is the wood hydrating — a beautiful sight.
Wipe Off Excess
Use a clean dry cloth to remove any oil still sitting on the surface. Buff lightly. Leaving excess oil on the surface can make it feel sticky.
Repeat If Needed
Very dry pieces may benefit from a second coat after the first has fully absorbed (next day). Once the wood is well-conditioned, you'll need to oil less frequently.
For Different Pieces
Wall Art & Sculptures
Oil 2–3 times per year. Use a soft brush to reach carved details. Dust with a dry paintbrush — never a wet cloth on deeply textured or carved pieces.
Kitchen & Dining
Oil monthly with regular use. Never soak in water or put in a dishwasher. Hand wash only with mild soap, rinse quickly, and dry immediately. Stand upright to dry — do not lay flat on a wet surface.
Home Accessories
Wipe down with a slightly damp cloth monthly. Oil every 3–4 months. For candle holders, remove wax residue with a hair dryer on low heat before oiling — the warmth lifts wax cleanly.
